Memories in the Making

Melissa Paul is excited to announce a new venture:

Northwest Family Vacations
a boutique travel agency catering specifically to the needs of families.

As you may know, along with my business partner, I operate an insurance agency specializing in voluntary supplemental employee benefits as a “day job” - I love what I do and have no intention of closing up shop. But Eric and I do love to travel with the kids and love to share our experiences. We peruse and contribute to Cruise Critic, Dis Boards, Trip Advisor, and other travel sites in our free time seeking out and sharing tips and tricks, and we love planning interesting vacations. Northwest Family Vacations is a "hobby job" but something that I'm passionate about starting, and while I'm doing travel consulting "on the side" with the help of modern technology, I'm always available by phone and email to assist traveling families.

My hope is to help our clients with their travel adventures and maybe be able to have a few more of my own because of it. In the past, we’ve often been asked to help family and friends with their travel arrangements, especially those who are less internet savvy. Now as a travel consultant there are a few more cool tools at my disposal to make it easier to find the best prices and orchestrate an unforgettable vacation for you.

Some things are fairly easy to do yourself, like hopping on priceline and booking a single night hotel stay, or finding a good deal on plane tickets from your favorite airline. For more involved travel, it might be preferable to have a knowledgeable friend do some or all of the work for you.

Northwest Family Vacations can help you plan a great family trip, centered around the needs and interests of you and your family. We’ve established partnerships with some of the best family friendly cruise lines (through an affiliation with Cruises and Tours Unlimited) and will make sure that you get on the right ship for your family travel style and budget. In addition, as a licensed insurance agent, I can help with your travel insurance coverage, whether you have booked your vacation with me or not.

I love a cruise vacation because for one price you get food, hotel, transportation, entertainment, and oftentimes childcare as well and you get to visit interesting ports of call. It is a fun way to see the world while only having to unpack once and getting a good mix of family time as well as the opportunity to reconnect with your spouse one on one while the kids play games with excellent age appropriate programs. Cruises are very much a “choose your own adventure” which makes them great for multigenerational and group travel. There is a huge variety of cruise lines out there and we can help identify the best one for your family’s cruising style, destination choice, and budget. I would never recommend a cruise that I wouldn’t take my own family on.

Disneyland and the Walt Disney World Resort are two of our other favorite vacation destinations. Believe it or not, the first time we went to Disneyland as a family I DIDN’T enjoy it. When we went it was a spur-of-the-moment decision and we didn’t do any advance planning for the experience at all, either as a family or with the other members of our group. Consequently, we spent A TON of time waiting in line, waiting for each other, and trying to decide what to do next. As a result, we only went on a few rides the entire day and spent hundreds of dollars just to be there. I honestly didn’t think we’d ever go back – too crowded, too expensive. And yet, we did return, several times, and learned that having a touring plan is essential to maximizing the experience and getting the most magic for your money.

You can get park tickets anywhere, but having a trip plan really makes a world of difference. Not everyone has the time or inclination to do all the homework though. Northwest Family Vacations is here to help with that – you tell us what you want to do and we’ll figure out the most time-efficient, cost effective way for you to experience the magic, whether you want to stay at a Disney resort, a “Good-Neighbor Hotel” or even a condo or house rental. Your Disney touring plan is complimentary when you boork your vacation with me.
I am committed to a concierge travel experience for our clients – a great vacation for everyone. While the specialty of Northwest Family Vacations is family cruises and Disney vacations, I am happy to assist you with your other travel needs too – airfare, hotel accommodations, rental cars, and other major theme park, attraction, and tour tickets, please ask!
